Kathleen "Katy" Casey

Katy started working with clay about 11 years ago when she moved to Green Valley. Born and raised in Quebec City, Canada, she has travelled extensively and loves the experience of new places and cultures. She brings some of this spirit of adventure to her work with clay.

Her current work includes joining clay with pine needles. She throws a clay ‘pot’, alters it as desired and prepares it to have pine needles attached. She uses needles that have fallen from Apache pine trees in Madera Canyon: the Santa Rita mountains is the northern most range for this particular pine. The needles are gathered, cleaned and straightened, then attached to the clay piece with artificial sinew. Each piece is unique and may include beads, antlers, feathers and other found treasures.
